More Fender promo ****. IMO.

I have friends who work at So Cal, too...but there's such a thing as over-cross-promoting-to-death.

I like a lot of Fenders. But that ain't one of 'em!

That ought to go in the "what were they thinking?" file. ;-)

"What were they thinking"?

They were thinking, "Now, how can we wring another couple of hundred thousand bucks out of a market that's aready brain-dead and numb and sick of thrasher Strat variations?"

"Let's see. Call in the licensing guy. Vinnie, what's available that says, 'California'? SoCal Speed Shop? Who's that? OK, get one of the designers to work on it. Tell him I need a sketch in 15 minutes."

15 Minutes later: "Kewl. Can we paint a fretboard like that? OK. Is Guitar Center on board? OK. 25 thousand units."

And so a classic was born.

This joins the Antigua line as reaching for greatness but falling short...

...and not to mention the tonal versatility that the lone volume knob provides....

And people have the testicular fortitude to call Ricks "one trick ponies"!

Hey Paul..I resemble that Antigua remark! The SoCal axe would benefit from some STP dot markers and a whammy bar shifter with an 8 Ball on the tip.

Still interested in that Antigua, George...it's a love/hate thing.

But I wouldn't be caught dead with a So Cal Fender.

Like Von Dutch, So Cal is another legendary name reduced to Paris Hilton weenie dawg fashion accessory, through the wizardry of Modern Marketing!

AAAaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh.....

OK..maybe the SoCal would benefit most from being left in the case....locked! May take you up on the Antigua...I have a yearning for a oly white Jag...

Got the Carl Wilson bug, huh? George, nothing sounds like a Jag!!!
