Aaarrgghh! I'd love to go, but there's no way I could swing it last minute.

It seems that Geoff's co-author "recreated" conversations based upon interviews with others who were at Abbey Road at the same time. "Having read the book," I thought most of Geoff's recollections of conversations sounded suspiciously the same as accounts of these conversations published elsewhere. Think a bit: how often do two people remember a conversation exactly the same after a day, let alone after 30+ years? Personally I would have been more pleased with the book if he had gone into more technical detail. But how many books would that sell?

It's seems technically enough to me, Dave. There are some really good passages about developing different sounds and thus breaking rules. Books like these are a blend of some technical & mostly entertainment for the books to sell to the general public. Only a very few people could read this book if it was dominantly technical.

The book could have been more technical because its appeal is limited anyway. Barnes and Noble ranks the sale of the book at #6,812. Not exactly a NY Times bestseller. It wouldn't have mattered if the text were more technical, since it's likely that a vast majority of the readers are Beatles' nuts.
The 'recreated' conversations were a bit much. Emerick appears to have the ability to recall chatter from 40 years ago, when most people can't even remember what they had for lunch yesterday.

I like the recreated passages even if they are 50% real. Its just entertaining. Good fiction.

You're right, Mike, good fiction, or abundant use of creative license.

I enjoyed it, wanted a little more on the tech end, and noticed he had a real issue with George H. My condensed review! Sounds like the Recording The Beatles Book, or Norman Smith's upcoming account may be more interesting, I hope.

As I said elsewhere here, after so many books have been written about The Fabs, how could much new material be discovered? People always will be able to write new books about the same events, but any new material at this point has to be very obscure. It's a like expecting a fresh perspective on the JFK assassination. I do wish that Paul had written down which bass he used on every song, though, just so we could spend less time speculating here, there and everywhere.

Somewhat, skeptically, I look forward to Norman Smith's book, The Sound of the Beatles, too. I understand it's due out this June?

It was entertaining, but what bugged me was a lack of pics for the book. Yeah, we've seen studio pics elsewhere, and I don't imagine Geoff had time to bring his Brownie with him to the sessions. (For you youngsters...A "Brownie" is an old old Kodak camera. Kodak is an old old photo...oh, never mind.)

There were 3, I think on the back jacket, but nothing inside. Disappointing.

I just finished Geoff's book last week. I really enjoyed it and have read about the rumblings about how he portrayed harrison too harshly...but some people naturally get on well better with others.

I agree wtih Jerry though....the lack of pictures was disappointing....but I thought that it was a great book considering the latest series of Beatles books that came out.

A great read for anyone wanting a glimpse into the Beatles' studio life.
