Acoustic 150B with dual 2 x 15 cabs. Any experience with or input on? How many watts? I haven't found that out yet.

I believe they were about 110 watts rms. Keep in mind this is still fairly early solid state gear so you might want to try it for a while before you buy it unless the price is right.

I believe the price is really good - just under $400 for all. I can't find anything on the cabs - were all Acoustic cabs folded horns?

Dual 2x15's sounds like a 404 cab. Is there a speaker facing up and 1 facing down?

I had a 402 (single 2x15) when I was younger. I regret selling it now. A pita to move (couldn't handle it now with my Corolla) but a very nice sounding cab.

Acoustic made good amps ... they sometimes had electrical problems ... but they sounded great ... I used to have a 1x18 svt size 301 cabinet ... I had a crossover that split the lows into the 1x18 and the highs into a 1x15 cab ... the whole stack was 7 feet tall and kicked *** ...

I haven't called about them yet, so I'm not sure of model numbers. How the add read was two cabs with 2 x 15". Looking on the Unofficial Acoustic website (just found it) they could be 406 or 456 cabs. From what I've found and the posts here, I will call in the morning (don't have the number handy here at work) to get the details.

That head will do some real damage. I used to play 2000 seat auditoriums using a 140 head (same thing without the reverb) and a single Sunn 118VH folded horn cab. I never had to turn the volume up over 1/4-3/8 and it was not being sent through the PA system. I used two cords out of my bass, one from each pickup, and ran them each into their own amp channel. With Ric-O-Sound and a splitter box you could do similar and it brings some interesting tone possibilities into the equation. One neat one is to set one channel pretty much as you want your sound and then turn up the treble and hit the bright switch on the second channel. Then you can feather in as much of the second channel as you want to add percussion to the overall sound.

I played through a sunn 4x15 cabinet once ... YA BABY!!! it was an excellent sounding cabinet ... but I would not want to move it ...

I have a 140 and a 150, both about 110w as stated. Very loud though. I gig mine occasionally, and they sound great, and are plenty loud. I'm sure they were very conservatively rated. If the 2x15 cab is the one that came with it, ('69- 74 vintage), it's just a plain old front firing cabinet. Mine had factory Altecs, which was great. Even with the stock CTS or Eminence, they were decent cabs. Visually, an original should be black tolex, black grill, white banding around the grille and a plain aluminum strip accross the top with a black and silver or blue and silver Acoustic logo. $400 for everything is about right, not a tremendous bargain, but decent.

Well, I finally got ahold of the seller (after many attempts today) and they were sold, in fact the guy buying was picking them up when I called. The seller wasn't sure of the model cabs but when I gave him Fran's description he said yes, but no idea what speakers were inside. So thanks to all for your input. I'd planned to call last night but left the number at home and missed out.

And the price was $350 not $400 (I remembered wrong). He said they went right away. No doubt. I'd hoped to lighten my load a little (Ampeg SVT-2 Pros are HEAVY), but from the descriptions you guys gave the cabs would have been beasts - both in weight and sound. Sigh...

Darn! Keep an eye out though. Old Acoustic gear is nice to get a hold of.

Yeah, for $350 that was my thought. I have 2 Ampeg heads, an Ampeg cab, an old Heathkit TA-17 and TA-17-1 cab (really nice cab sound), and figured the Acoustic would be a nice addition. Oh well.

Jeff - Thanks. I had found that after my initial post and had the cabs down to either 406 or 456. From his discription I'd say maybe 406s. Immaterial as I missed out. I guess what attracts me to the Acoustic cabs are their efficiency. Large output for fewer watts in. Unfortunately they are heavy....
