I've had my Ric since just before CHRISTmas 2005, but paid on it in layaway for MANY months.

Lots of folx have been showing us pics of their beautiful guitars and wanted 2 show U mine. Its a 2005 381 v69! So fun 2 play and C!

I had to borrow a camera in order to get the pics.

Here are the linx for a front & back shot:

That photo of that guitar is big enough to play. May I echo Brian's comments and welcome you to the Rickenbacker Forum. The 381 has killer binding and I love that carve.

Thanks, guys.

I apologize about the size of the photos, I don't have any (convenient) photo editing software on this PC. At least U can see the detail... and yes, I love that carve, as well. That neck pickup is smoooootthh and warm.

Gary,

Thanks for resizing the image for this board. I don't mind at all. How do they do that checkerboard anyway?

It's a story that was told before, but I don't know offhand what thread it's in. A short summary is as follows (if memory serves me correctly - so take this with a grain of salt!). One company in Europe makes the checked binding by layering and gluing alternate sheets of white and black plastic until a large cube is made. The cube is then cut with a laser to make the thin strips. The cube costs a lot of money to make (on the order of hundreds of thousands of dollars), so the binding is a high-value item compared with regular binding.

The binding on the guitar is actually two strips of binding, the checked binding against the body, and a white (or black) binding against the checked. We Forumites love that checked binding!
