Anybody have any experience/opinions on Rob Allen basses? I've been craving an acoustic or semi-hollow for some time and I like the aesthetics of the MB-2 model. I haven't heard too much about them but what I have heard has been quite good and I was just wondering if anyone here has used/owned one.
I don't rally "need" it but would like to have one around for home practice and noodling.

I think that Andy O'Conner has one that he really likes. You might drop him a line.

Thanks Scott! He's a 4004 fan as well so his opinion would likely parallel mine.

I believe I would get more use from a fretted and being a 5 string is a slight bonus.

I wouldn't consider the RA an "acoustic". It is mostly a solid body with a couple of chambers routed into the body. I did play the fretted one that BP reviewed a few years ago; it was at the Bass Exchange in Tarzana, CA at the time. Nice bass but it really must be plugged in. The Rick Turner Renaissance is much louder unplugged but it too really should be plugged unless you are in a quiet room. Best bet would be to get a 4005!

Jeff, I really liked your Rick Turner but I'm not much of a fretless kinda' guy and I like the aesthetics of the Rob Allen a touch better. Like I said, I was looking for an acoustic or semi-hollow and I became fascinated with the Rob Allen.....it may be more of a solid body but it should resonate better than my Rics and they are almost loud enough for me to practice on unplugged and hear what I'm doing clearly. I don't really need to get any significant volume from it (as far as acoustics are concerned) I would just like it to resonate a little more musically.
BTW...my band is playing at Peabody's downtown this Saturday and the House of Blues on May 19th......let me know if you feel like getting a headache and I'll get you some tickets to either one.
Steve....my band is starting to work on originals and and this could give me some pretty cool tones during recording!
