This is one of the more unusual Rics in that it's finished in Jetglo instead of the normal satin Mapleglo found on the regular 4001C64S'. I purchased it last year from Pick of the Ricks and it's only been out of the house once. Photos are available on request.

It sounds like it's going to a good home. The buyer told me once had a Burgundy '73 4001 and hasn't had a Ric since he sold that one, despite having 9 other basses. I think he'll enjoy it.

No Fenders this time. I already have a Fullerton-era '62 AV Jazz Bass and a 50th Anniversary Precision Bass. I'm looking at active 5-stringers. And the part that really sucks is that there really aren't any good high-end bass shops in the DC area and so I have to order basses on a 48-hour trial period and see how I like them. I have to eat freight both ways if i don't like it, but it beats shelling out major $$$ on something to find out I didn't like it down the road. So far, I have three basses arriving tomorrow and I'll be auditioning this weekend:

Wow, talk about some hot dates for the weekend!

It's costly, but it sounds like a great way to really try an instrument before making an expensive purchase that you may regret.

I have a feeling the Lull isn't going to go far. I wanted to try it since it has a 3-band EQ with passive override and it would give me two gigging basses with the same neck (I have a Lull P/J 5). But then I also have a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 5 with a J-Retro preamp that does a really good job, so I may just keep that one since it's less money.

Based on my conversations with the shop, the MTD is supposed to be a warmer, more traditional-sounding bass and so that one may be the one. But then everyone is raving about the Roscoe's neck and tonal flexibility, so who knows?

Try an F Bass if you can, they are really nice, also, of course, you can't go wrong with a Zon.

I inquired about an F Bass and it's a little too "hi-fi" for me. Same goes for the Zon. The MTD is supposed to be able to traditional easily, which is good for me.

Have you ever tried an Alembic? Oh, how I LOVE my Alembic basses!

New, the prices are NUTS, but you can get a great deal on used ones!

I tries a few Alembics the other night. I didn't care for them. I have to be careful with my bass selection due to my small hands (hence my attraction to Rickenbacker). Lakland and Mike Lull fivers work well with me.

This has nothing to do with the thread, but since F Basses were mentioned... excuse me while I whip this out!

I had a Roscoe 5 a good while ago, nice bass but at the time I wasnt playing in a band so I really cant say how it would do in a live situation. Good sounding B string.
