I had some work done on my 1984 360WB today, by Tim at Mansons Gtrs. Since getting this gtr, it has worked it's way up to top player, so I decided to modify it slightly to give me the sound that I need.

It came with toasters...sorry...I just don't get on with toasters, even the powerful ones that were on this one, so higains were the choice...but you know me, why have two when you can have three! I also don't get on with the capped sound, but wanted to retain it just in case, so it is wired normally for switch select, but a volume for each pickup & a master volume pull/push pot, to engage or disengage the cap. I have never used tone controls in my life, so the extra volume pots (especially the master volume) are a lot more use. The blend control now does nothing. It is also wired for dual mono. Gold 'bits' & an Accent finished it.





The push pull pot doesn't do what I expected, so I'll talk to Tim about that, but otherwise it's a real stunning sounding gtr, which gives me the sound of my 'benchmark' 345, but with a little extra available as well....a real players gtr now!

Very sweeeet. My own WB (Ruby '82) came with Hi-Gains, and I'll be doing a toaster swap! It's already got its Accent.

Erm, you wanna sell those toasters???

The hot toasters are on a 1997 at the moment Paul. I am quite disenchanted with toasters in general (although they look great) & much prefer the tone of higains for my particular music.

However....I do not feel the same way about toasters on 12 strings, a totaly different kettle of fish! Both my 12's have toasters & they both sound superb...total Rickenbacker. So it's higains for 6's, but a 21 fret 12 gets toasters. Modern higains on 21 fret neck 6 strings don't really sound right & the toasters don't 'do it' for me, so a higain in the bridge & a toaster in the neck sounds great on those models.

I suppose the dimple removal & toaster cover would be the best solution. I'm still getting around to experimenting with that!

BEAUTIFUL! I love my 2 and 3 pickup Rics, but nothing looks as cool as a Rickenbacker with that holy trinity of toasters (er, higains here).

Tony, could you be more specific about the cap? I played a '79 360/12 once and I noticed the sound was really trebly and "spiky". I loved it. I thought it was overwound higains but someone told me there may have been a cap in there. Is that what it does?

That is pretty much what it does John. The cap is effectively a hi pass filter, which filters off some of the bottom end. You must remember that I play almost exclusively with overdrive, which is why I prefer higains, a middle pickup & no cap!

I'm glad you all like it. I must admit that I am extremely pleased with it....great looks, great sound, great player & a GREAT fireglo.

I'm really happy with my 345 as well, but in truth, I think that the modern 330 is as good as any gtr that has ever been made, but it is nice to play something a little different. Also, the FG does age very well & looks a lot better IMO than the new gtrs. However, if the 330 was offered in AFG???? (I'm drooling at the thought!)

BTW Peter, your photo imaging work is art in its own right!

Tony, If your guitar had toasters and oven knobs on it then it would look just like my old 375. Except for the shorter inlays of course.
