Bowel diseases and constipation on the Rick Resource Forum?

Now I've seen everything, Sean.

I think this is a pretty loose interpretation of "The Others", personally. With all due respect to your discomfort, of course.

Actually, a physical condition that could affect a player's ability to get through a gig could be a productive topic to discuss for those affected.

I don't have any experience with it, but hopefully you'll find players who can help you out. Good luck!

drink lots of water and get a lot of fiber and take some coral calcium with every meal ...

actually that is good advice for those without diverticulitis as well ...

Sean, I had it or still have it. Not fun at all. I left mine go for a few years, and during that time I ended up in the hospital more than once. Gradually the attacks became more frequent until I had no other options, and had the surgery. I was in the hospital for a week, had a foot of my colon removed, and experienced the worse pain I have ever been in. Typical symptoms are flu like with a high fever. I had no idea what was wrong with me after the first bout, until I was diagnose with it. Before that, I never even heard of it. Mainly comes from the typical American high fat diet. Jeff is right, you may be able to avoid things becoming more serious if you can maintain a high fiber diet, and avoid food with seeds, peanuts, ect. I had the surgery in 99 and have not had any problems since.
Good luck!

I am convinced that many ailments can be treated with diet and supplements ... I try natural cures first then I go to the doctors ...

most Americans go through life constipated and dehydrated ...

Go to your doctor and take his advice, many (not all) postpone doing that and their condition gets worse in the meantime. Some natural stuff is good other is junk it's hard to tell.
I agree with Jeff's second line, drink lots of water and it doesn't have to be 2.00 perrier water, there is water in coca cola also, any liquid drink just about is 99.9% water, the source doesn't matter. I drink a lot of Gater Aid Rain (much lighter taste than regular). I'll go though a quart a night in work. Dehydration leads to constipation. Incidently too much fibre is not good either causes excessive flatulence, figured I'd use the proper term so as to not offend anyone, ahem.

don't drink coke ... it accelerates mineral losses which accelerates degenerative diseases ...

many doctors are pill pushers ... and the pills often have bad side effects ... be an educated consumer ...

I had a degenerative disease ... I went to a doctor and his drugs made me worse ... but with a few diet changes and supplements I am 95% better ...

I have Diverticulitis. I inherited it from my Mother. It's not really a problem yet.

The doctor told me I had insomnia, but not to lose any sleep over it ... Image

Back to the serious, here are the definitions of the terms:

diverticulitis: inflammation of a diverticulum

diverticulosis: presence of many diverticula in the intestine

diverticulum: an abnormal outpocketing or sac on the wall of a hollow organ

[McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 5th Ed.(1994)]

So one can have diverticulosis without diverticulitis, but not vice-versa.

Natural things are great I take them myself but as an adjunct to good medical care.

actually I see a naturalpathic doctor as my regular doctor ... he has helped me a lot ... the best part is I actually get better and the stuff he gives me has no side effects ...
