I just wanted to warn everyone about ebay auction #2526021151, the Fretless Rickenbacker 8-string bass. This auction is completely bogus. I own this bass and it is NOT for sale! The description was copied right from the My Guitars page on my personal website at fretless12.com. Thanks Gary for alerting me to this! Ebay has been notified. Hope they catch the *******....

Description
This is the only fretless 8-string bass guitar that Rickenbacker has ever made! The documentation letter sent to me by Rickenbacker in 1993 suggests that this "may be the only fretless 8-string bass on the planet."
Just another thing to worry about when buying over the internet I'm afraid.

The auction has been cancelled and the sellers fake ID has been cancelled too, Thank You Ebay! If anyone happened to email this seller and got a response of any kind from them could you please forward it to me with all headers attached to
[email protected]. I know who is responsible, I just need to cross the T's and dot the I's to make sure it never happens again! Thanks!

Hey Mark,
I requested photos from the guy, but something was definitely "not quite right" with this auction. No pics? No feedback? Private auction? Smelled like a scam a mile a way. I'll let you know if any e-mail comes my way but at this point I doubt it. Good luck nailing this guy!

Has anybody ever strung a 4003s8 B E A D ????
Talk about growl ... I bet it would be awesome!!!

As I recall from his video Chris Squire tunes each pair a fifth apart...it sounded great.
Damn Syndrome is making my wallet itch.

Hey ... that black one is a 4008 from the 70's ...
that is even more rare than the 4003s8 ...

OOOOhh ... that is pretty ... sleek and nice ... I have a black one that is being shipped to me right now ...
I am thinking of turning a 4004 into a 5 string bass ... I have a bridge already ... I can make a nut and then I need one machine head tuner ... I will experiment with the 4004 pickups ... I may use 4003 high gain and reverse the polarity of the neck one like a jazz bass and wire it up volume volume tone for the controls ...
A few minor mods to make a killer bass ... I love the tight spacing of the 4003s5 ... it took me a while to get used to the 4003s5 but now it feels right and other basses feel wrong ... so I figured a 4004 would make a nice 5 string with a few mods ... and it would have the tighter spacing that I like ...

A pair of toasters might also sound pretty cool. It would definitely look the part. By the way, if you go to Rick's site and look at the section dealing with guitar components, you can get a part number for the one tuner you need and just order one. They also have blank nuts that you can cut yourself. I don't remember if they have 5-string nuts.
