I noticed yesterday that the pickguard on my 2005 4003 BB is slightly opaque whereas the pickguard on my 2003 4003 Jetglo is not. Was there a change in process ?

My 2004 MG has a slightly see-thru-ness also. You can just makeout the routing underneath.

The age of consistently high quality acrylic sheet material (Plexiglas) ended when Rohm and Haas stopped making it a few years ago. It is very difficult to find truly opaque white these days.

Some luthiers spray the underside white if it's too transparent. Personally I dig the transparent pickguards, I think they look way cooler than the opaque ones. All the copies have opaque pickguards.

Ah, but there was nothing quite like the "glassy, milky, translucent-yet-not-see-through-ness" of the pickguard on my old '77 4001. As plastic goes, that stuff was very aesthetically pleasing.

Ilan ... I'm with you !! The slight transparency looks great on my Blue Boy - I was just curious and as always on this site, "ask & you shall learn" !!

Cheers all
