Hi-I know that this is a little off-topic, but I would like to hear some comments, flames or raves about comparing a Gretsch Nashville to a Gretsch Country Gentleman. I have an opportunity to pick up a Nashville, but I'm apprehensive, because I really want a Country Gentleman but can't afford the $3k or so a good vintage Gent would demand. Thanks!***Mark

I recently played a nice (old) double-cut 6120. Orange. It sounded great. Blew the doors off any of my four (new) Gretsches (even the one w/TV Jones aftermarket pups).

Not sure what "Nashville" you're looking at? The 6120 single-cuts typically have a deeper body and I believe the scale length is different from the Gent (24.6" vs 25.5") These two measurements are going to make the two guitars feel very different. Also, older Gents had pretty strange heel arrangements where the neck/body joins.

Sound-wise both are going to be pretty similar with two Filter'Trons and virtually identical volume/tone control set-ups.

Thanks for the reply Gary. The guitar I am looking at is the double cutaway model. The tuners have been replaced, but other than that it is stock. There is minimal binding deterioration and the finish is in good shape too. From what I can gather, it sounds as though the Nashville is a tad smaller in size than the 'gent, which for me isn't a bad thing. I haven't heard a Nashville (knowingly)so therein lies my pitfall.....Please give more comments!!!!

I own a Country Classic I and really love it. I got it from EM Shorts for about $1600 new. Not vintage, but, it is still a beautiful instrument. A 6120 is somewhat deeper but shorter than a 6122 (17"). you should really go on the Gretsch pages which is another great forum to get a whole slew of ideas.
