Hofner Neck Reset Procedure

Hi Don,
Can you tell me where I can get coaching on resetting the neck on my '68 Hofner Beatle bass?

Joe; I've done a few. what do you need to know?
A couple items on these. Most had a metal rod between the body and neck and Hofner used "animal hide glue" which is a hold over from orchestral instrument making. The hide glue is water solubale. You can use steam or a hot knife to seperate the joint. Be sure and use a razor to score the laquer in the seam areas so you don't crack or pull any off between the two pieces.

BTW, the metal rod was used as a dowel or pin to hold the body and neck together.
I've seen a number of these where the rod has fallen out over time..
