yeah off topic, but what thread isn't...
My piece-o-cr_p Nikon 5700 is going back for its SECOND factory recall. First defective image chip, now the metering system won't fire the flash.
Should I go for another Nikon, D50 or Canon Rebel XT?
Need fast frames/sec and reliable electronics. I'm sick of sending this thang back...
Suggestions? (runs for cover)

Well, if the Nikon is a P.O.C., then learn your lesson and don't buy another one.
I always thought that was you playing a Blackstar in a cave at night!

Dyed in the wool Canon guy here; go for a Canon D10 on Ebay for ~$600, or a D20 for ~$1000 and then buy some good glass and you'll be set for a couple of years at least.

I had the 5700. I thought it was great. But for a newer compact camera I opted for the Fuji F10, perfect for low and natural low light settings. Or get the newer version the F30. If you're the SLR type of a person grab the Nikon D70s. It's one of the best out there for the $$. Or if you have a money tree, grab the Nikon D200.

Canon fan here, too. I've been using their film cameras for years and have been thinking about the 20D for a year or so. Once they dip below the $1000 pricetag, I just may jump. The 10D is a very attractive price, too, but they are becoming very hard to find new, as the model is a few years old and has been upgraded to the 20D. Another option is the newest digital Rebel, although the name escapes me. They are about $800, and are 8 megapixels.
Canon EOS lenses are interchangeable between the EOS film SLR cameras and the digital SLR's, so I would be all set with lenses.

If you can budget for it, get an Olympus E-1.

It's not the top of the line, however, I really like the Canon A530...

Steve-
I'm playing my Shadow, in a coal mine, at midnight, during a lunar eclipse...
I'm hoping that the Nikon 5700 was a fluke-had their 35mm models and they were fine...

I hate to keep harping on this, but a thread like this really should be in The Others section.
