I'll be in NYC the first week of June, and would like to go to some good stores. Anything recommended?
Went to Rudy's last year, and whatever else was on that street. (43rd'ish?).
I'll be staying near 7th and 53rd.
Will only have a couple hours on three nights, so I need to maximize my time.

Thanks,
Kevin

There are a few stores in Greenwich Village, Kevin, which are all walking distance from each other. A bit downtown from you. Maybe a $10 cab fare.

I'd check out Matt Umanov Guitars (And pick up a Magnolia cupcake while you're there!)

Also, if you're up for a ferry ride to Staten Island (my home base), check out Mandolin Bros. It's one of the best acoustic guitar stores anywhere, and they have a good selection of electrics too.

Thanks guys. Street names please!
I can get to the Village and Staten Is., but will need help from there.
I'm a country boy, and will need all the help I can get!Image

Mandolin Bros. is easy to get to, it's one bus off the ferry, or a pretty short ride by cab. From their site:

"When you reach Staten Island, follow the crowd off the boat to the bus ramps. Take the #48 Forest Ave. bus to Pelton Ave. (about a 15-minute ride). Walk one block towards Oakland Avenue, until you come to the beige stucco building at 629 Forest Avenue, with the MANDOLIN BROS. sign on it."

Magnolia Bakery is a small shop in the West Village that has the best cupcakes! IIRC, it's at the corner of Bleecker St. and West 11th. http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7117258/
