Depending on condition, these are selling for $2000 - $2500+ now, and i can't see them going down in value. It's not like Ric is making any more of them, and the new models are nowhere near the same in terms of feel or sound.

The 4004CII/5 is what I was referring to. Much wider/thicker neck, smaller/thinner body, much different pickups (no toaster or older high gain).

they ain't making none of them either ... and if they fixed the pickup problem today there will be at least an 18 month wait for completion of any models ... so the earliest we will see any 5 string models coming from the Rickenbacker factory is 2008 ...

gee I'm glad I convert mine 4-2-5 ... http://www.3dentourage.com/425/

Jeff, how hard would it be to reverse the new string arrangement on the one on Ebay?

Just a new nut???

I know I'm not the Jeff you were asking, but yes, a new nut should revert it to original - assuming the saddles don't need swapping out as well. That would entail getting new saddles, cutting them down to the correct with and adding the grooves.

actually just a new set of strings and a setup may be all it needs ... If I were going to restring a bass from BEADG to EADGC I would not put in new saddles and a new nut ... they probably just adjusted the string height, intonation, and truss rods for the strings installed ...

but I do recommend putting in replacement saddles and cutting the grooves so you can increase the bridge spacing from 2 1/16" to 2 1/4" ... this makes it easier to play a 4003s5 bass ...
