Did George play the lead on the Tony Sheridan track "My Bonnie"? If so, I have to say it'd be one of the better leads I ever heard from George and the tone is just great - I guess it would have been the Duojet at that point.

Did George still use his Futurama, even if occasionally, at this point? I heard somewhere that it had a pretty good tone.

I think once he got the duojet he pretty much stopped using his Futurama all together, I could be wrong though. I heard it sounded ok, but was really hard to play and had bad intonation.

George had said the Futurama was hard to play because the action was so high I think I read that quote in Beatles Gear

He had to be using the Futurama, no? I think that's Sheridan playing lead, btw. WAY too dynamic for George, I think. Why wouldn't TS have played lead?

My understanding is that the guitar solo on My Bonnie was played by Tony Sheridan. He was considered quite an amazing guitarist at the time — definitely not just a strummer.

Interesting question. Can anyone find an published source for this? I surfed around and checked a few of my books and couln't find any mention of it one way or another.... just that the lads backed him up.
Does a careful listen show 3 guitars? (I only hear two)...... because ya gotta figure that George and John were playing (John's sound in certainly there). I doubt that George would have been guitar-less during the recording.

I think I hear the same rhythm sound that I hear on "Cry for a Shadow", which I certainly always believed to be John's 325.

I read that Tony Sheridan used to make fun of John's little Ricenbacker guitar and would say something to the effect... "why dont you get a REAL guitar"

Another Tony Sheridan connection: When John and George ordered their matching J160E's, they thought they were getting archtop Gibsons like the one Tony Sheridan played. Obviously, the J160E is very different from an archtop, but after special ordering them, they had no choice but to take delivery.

My whole vibe on Tony Sheridan is that he was a sort of blend of mod'n day greaser-troubadour-wanna-be, and sleazy old music hall performer. Given to boasting, loud of mouth and attire, fond of put-downs, etc.
Put his pants on one leg at a time and got into music for the same two reasons as a lot of his contemporaries around the world: kitty and kash.

I like Sheridan's voice a lot, at least on this song...
A funny thing happened quite a few years ago: my Dad has played me this song saying "That's the Beatles!" So i asked: "Yeah, but who's the lead singer?" He went on: "John! No, Paul... No, wait..." I found out later that it was actually Tony Sheridan, told him that, and he was very surprised.
