I think the oriental pots and switch and caps and funny lil studs by the knobs are a give away.
Might be a creation of Fuji Gen Gakki....

Not to mention the 'dots' on the pickguard next to the pot holes. The chrome stuff is easy to spot too. On the tailpiece, the string pass-through holes are perfect circles on this. Not so on the real deal. And that stupid selector swith casing. Yeccch!

I've learned a few things from Sergio. He can spot them in the dark with his eyes closed.

Hi all, I'm the seller of that stuff (which has since been pulled by ebay). Just wanted to thank the couple people from this forum that contacted me and set me straight about the parts. The guy that sold them to me wasn't honest but I am. I changed the descriptions on the fake parts immediately upon hearing from a member here (before they got pulled). And also immediately contacted the guy that bought the fake toaster pup and gave him a refund and kept the pup.

Anyway, I appreciate that the contact from you guys was just factual and not flaming, I respect that and the fact that you lookout for the Rickenbacker and ebay communities.

BTW, I do have an all original 73 Rick 4001 bass that I love (date code MD) but I'm more of a vintage BC Rich guy . . . okay, no jokes, they're great instruments just too "pointy" for some . . . LOL

take it easy,
Robert

Robert,

Since the auction for your VINTAGE 1970's RICKENBACKER 4001 BASS TRUSS ROD COVER is still alive, is it safe to assume that it is legitimate?

Bob, yes, the forum member who alerted me to the fact that the other parts were copies told me the truss rod cover was the only one of the Rick items I had listed that is legitimate . . . so you're safe with that one.

Thanks for the kind words all. And, maybe I'm niave, but I think most people on ebay are generally honest. I've only had one real bad experience in the time I've been on ebay. Sure, occasionally you get something that may not be described as well as you'd like but I don't think most ebayers are out to scam people, just not as thorough in their explanations as some would like. Unfortunately things like condition (i.e., mint, excellent, etc.) and action ("super low action, plays like butter" haha) is pretty subjective and reasonable minds can differ.

And Steve, Mocks are the most elegant of the BCR shapes, IMO, so that's a good choice.

Re the legit Rick truss rod cover I have up still have up. I don't know what this is "worth" but think it has gotten bid up to a silly amount. I'm not going to cancel the auction and sell off ebay, it's against the rules, but, if anyone here would like it and wants to put a bid that will top whoever is the high bidder, I can "end the auction to sell to the current high bidder." I've done that before and it protects the buyer's ability to leave feedback, plus it's legit with ebay. After my experience with buying this lot of "Rick" parts, I'd rather have someone here get it than some unknown quantity that may use it to fake a bass. If anyone wants to do that, send me an email with your ebay name so I will know who to end the auction for. My email is [email protected]. NOTE: I still think it is overpriced as it is but, for whatever reason, it's gotten bid up.

Admin, if this is an inappropriate thing to post, please accept my apologies and delete this post. I didn't see anything in the "posting intro" that would indicate this would be a problem. I just know that when noobies come around trying to sell something to an existing community, feathers can get ruffled. That's not what I'm trying to do, the cover already has bids and will sell so I'm not attempting to hype an item here.
