Is it Ringo??

Alan has brought to my attention(rightfully so) that there seems to be some dispute as to whether Ringo Starr played on 'I'm Going To Sit Right Down And Cry Over You' on The Beatles at the BBC Sessions. Please have a listen and let me know what you think? Especially all you drummers out there!

Larry; I have ALL the BBC sessions on CD and vynil so could find it easily. Do you have a date that it was recorded?? It would make it easier for me to locate. But, in thinking about that track off the top of my head, the drumming seemed to be a bit more wild/energetic than what was Ringo's norm so could very well be Pete. Very Pete-ish in some of the fills!

Don, I've got it on vinyl on The Beatles 'Live At The BBC' and it's on record 1, side 2, the 3rd song although it doesn't give a date of the recording. It just doesn't sound like Ringo's style, a lot of drum rolls. I don't think Pete would have been there for this recording, but it's possible Ringo was late or sick that day and they got a stand-in drummer.

Listen to the studio recording of, or better yet, watch the live performance of "Long Tall Sally". Ringo cranks. But the two and a half minute, tightly structured singles of the Beatles generally didn't lend themselves to flash drumming. Though there are a lot of subtly intricate drum parts. Usually on the covers they recorded, Ringo lets loose a little more than on the originals. Maybe on the BBC recording, they wanted to do it in someone else's style (Rory Storm's?)
