Out of curiosity I'd like those who play Rics and are in gigging, ORIGINAL bands to show their hands. I ask for original bands, because it's a given if you're in a Beatle or other tribute band. People actually being abused in the original band segment of our community. Alas, I can't count my own band (yet!)though we possess a couple of ric basses, thery're not being used (and I haven't got my 660 yet-see my other gripes, er, posts). I have a feeling most bassists will be in metal/hard rock bands, most 3 series will be in power pop bands. Let's here from ya! I'll post my own band when and if!!!

Count me in as a Ric bassist in a heavy (but more punk/psych than metal) rock band. On one of our songs (one with a bit of a country/folk indierock feel to it), the guitarist plays my 360/12. I'm also in a psych/folk/pop band in which I usually play keyboard/synth/violin, but I played Ric bass on some of our studio recordings, and one of the guitarist's used his Ric lap steel on one of our songs.

I am in a 90% cover blues rock horn band these days, and I play a Rick still live along with my War***k. But 12 years ago I was in a all original, progressive type rock band. I played my first Rickenbacker (a 1976 4001 mg) only, through a Marshall 200w solid state rackmout head with a 15" EV15B bass speaker in a homemade cabinet. Which I still use today.. The band I'm with these days plays all covers, but in the 80's I was in a band that did 90% originals. Our music was not very heavy, in fact the singer that wrote all the songs was heavily influenced by the Kinks (and some Beatles). One of the guitarists was a little younger so his taste was a little on the heavy side, which made for a good balance actually.I've allways used a rick bass onstage and still do. The weight never bothers me. I get approached now and then by curious folks who have never seen a Rick up close and sometimes I run into other Rick players. As for the ones who have never touched one - as long as they're not wearing a utility belt or a rhinestone shirt, I'll put the bass in their hands and let them try it out. I take my 4000 and 4003 to gigs and switch off through the night, usually whenever the guitarists switch theirs.

I'm in a 3-piece band called The Daylight Titans. We sound like a cross between The Jam and The Church. We're in Austin,Texas where EVERYONE plays the blues(ugh!) on Fender Strats and
P-basses. I play a lefty 4001CS, and a lefty 4003. Our guitarist plays a 360, and a 620/12.

We describe ourselves as "garage rocking, power popping, psychedelic, hellbilly rock and roll", but you'd have to hear said upcoming CD to get it.

I play in two bands; Borderline and Thumpkin. I play bass in Borderline and lead guitar in Thumpkin. Normally I play Rick Turner M style basses, but if the mood strikes I'll pull out my Hofner Club bass. In Thumpkin I play a Rickenbacker 360/12 and a Les Paul Standard.

Both bands are power trios. Thumpkin has guitar, keboard (bass), and drums. Borderline has guitar, bass (me), and drums. Borderline gigs about two or three time a month and Thumpkin has yet to gig, but we're close.

My band keeps switching between 3-piece (guitar, bass, and drums) and 4-piece (2 guitars, etc.). When we're a 4-piece, I'll rarely put down my 620/12. When I'm the only guitarist, I'll switch between 6 and 12 strings. We play mostly originals (I'll cop to the "power-pop" label) with some offbeat covers thrown in. What do I consider an "offbeat" cover? How about a tune from the hippie episode of the original Star Trek?

I played Vox organ in Orange Hat, but the bass player used a Ric 4003JG; and in KH&Y the bass player and I were flying the flag.

I use my Ric in my original progressive band http://www.okclive.com/mindstorm
and then for most other gigs I sit in on.

Excellent website! Kool graphics! If your music even halfway lives up to your website it would be worth making the trip up to see you guys. I didn't see any Ricks though. I like the wings on your bassist. That and the red hair do it for me every time.

How many Ricks do you see in Country bands?
I've been playing my white Tuxedo Bass in Country/Rock bands for years. Expecting my Chris Squire 4001CS any day to add to the mix.
That's something you won't see very often!

I've had my new Ric only a couple of weeks, I'll be gigging with it regularly by mid-July!

I've had my ric for only a few days... but I am taking her to the gig this weekend to see how it goes... Just a cover band, 60's through current rock.. If all goes well, it will probably be my main guitar. Might have to drag a strat or tele along for the harder rock songs (lots of distortion)... that is unless the ric doesn't have any feedback problems.. Our stage volume is fairly high though... fingers crossed....
