Hello Goodbye 45

I went to the Salvation Army today (it's a religious organization that helps the poor and down and out) who have many places where people donate their old stuff and they then resell the things that are donated. I go there looking for old records and antique radios etc. Anyway I picked up the Hello Goodbye 45 single there today in great shape (Ticket To Ride also and 96 Tears) and lo and behold the flip side which has I Am The Walrus on it is the version with the extra measure in the middle. I have never heard this before except on a record I taped some years ago of Beatles rarities. I thought this was kind of interesting.
I just looked at the Ticket To Ride 45 and right under (John Lennon and Paul McCartney) it says: from the United Artists Release "Eight Arms To hold You"
Did they all say that or did I luck onto a couple of early release 45's?

Is that a rare find Brian? How about the Eight Arms to Hold You title for Help?

I meant to say seemingly rare find Bob. I'm not really sure if it is or not

Sorry, I made a mistake also, the song with the extra measure in it is I am The walrus. I looked up the Ticket To Ride single online and it is supposed to be a very early pressing.

Anything with "Eight Arms To Hold You" would be priceless!

Good job, Bob! Congratulations!
Speaking of - you've also mentioned 96 tears as one of the findings, so i wonder: have you ever seen their (i mean ? & the Mysterians) 2nd album, "Action"? Their first, "96 tears", is not that hard to find, while this one seems to be a real rarity...

I think the story is that when TTR was released the title of the film had yet to be decided on, so they went with 'Eight Arms To Hold You'...of course Lennon had not written 'Help' at that point either. My copy of TTR says that, I'd say there are quite a few out there since Beatle 45s were pressed en masse prior to release. I bought mine at a yard sale in the mid 70s...
I also have a DJ copy of 'Hello Goodbye/IATW' with the lime-green Capitol promo label....

The copy of TTR I bought when new had the "Eight Arms To Hold You" thingy. Not sure if I still have it.
Hold onto it (with two arms!).

I guess they're worth a lot with the picture sleeve which I don't have, they're in nice shape though.
Sheena I got the 96 Tears single not the LP. I used to listen to that song on a big console AM radio when I was a kid that had a 12" speaker and used to boom the bass out. I thought that was one cool song with great bass (still do actually, love that garage rock). It turns out that the bass player in ? and the Mysterians was Mel Shactor (sp?) who plays bass for Grand Funk Railroad and always has.

Interesting Bob. I thought from the title that you were bemoaning your 45th birthday!

I saw ? & the Mysterians about a year and a half ago at a local event. They gave a nice tight performance. They're a local group.

That bass line was, to me, awesome. As a kid I learned the song, bass line and all, on piano.
Cool to hear that was Grand Funk's bassist. Thanks for the info on a garage classic. I'd heard it actually was recorded in a garage. True?

Bob: i see now, thanks (so looks like i was lucky to get the whole album?

). But according to my source of info, the bass player's name is actually Mel Schaefer.

Yeah Sheena that's why I put the ? after his name, it's actually Mel Schacher.
Jerry, he was a great bass player, always loved his lines and sound, was a wildman. I don't know about the garage.
Peter, I bemoaned my 45rd birthday 8 years ago unfortunately.
