Here is an E-bay auction for a 1982 4001s, but look at the pictures of the back. Shouldn't the skunk stripe go all the way through?

Rhinobass: There were some Model 4001S and Model 4001FL basses that were constructed using the set neck design in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The above 4001S currently on eBay is a good example. You can see other examples of these here.

Thanks,

I have been keeping my eyes open for an "s" for the right price in either jetglo or maple glo, though I am not sure that this is the one for me.

That could also be a 4000 converted to a 2 pickup model ... also 1982 is a little late for a 4001 model ... by 1982 if you wanted an s model you got a 4003

I repaired a 1982 4003s blue ... it was neck through ...

So my guess is it is a 4000 converted ...

As detailed elsewhere in the Forum, my 1975 4001S WHT, a dealer-ordered factory original, is a model 4000 converted at the factory to a 4001S by the addition of the neck pickup; it retained its Model 4000 nameplate, in fact. It also has a set neck, like my 1977 4000 FL BG.
