It is very nice to see Roger's son Henry McGuinn carry on with the Rickenbacker Tradition. See Henry's Rickenbacker six string at Jetglo Model 325Byrd

I wonder if this is the black 325 he mentions in the Rickenbacker Book as being too hard to play and giving it to his "kids as a toy guitar"?

As far as I know, this would be it Jeff. I am sure other Byrd lovers will set me straight if I am wrong on this.

I'd say it's simply a matter of; McGuinn, like all the rest of us who grew up with the Beatles,
had to have a "Beatle " guitar, and whether he used it a lot or not isn't the point;kinda like many of our wives with us[come on ,guys, admit it's true...]"Why do you need another guitar?"
To which the answer must be given, "Need" has Nothing to do with it; "Want"has Everything to do with it.Roger probably drove his own wife nuts with his "toys".But, yeah, He had the 325 because
of "the association" factor, and that's all the justification you need.And I don't know how early on Henry[McGuinn] started to mess with guitar, but if he got that 325 when he was little, it was probably a perfect "learner" instrument.

Can you imagine your dad giving you a 66 Rick 325 to learn on??? and he's Roger Mcguinn....WOW!!! and oh, look who just pulled up in the drive way...it uncles Clarence White and Chris Hillman, good lord...Im sure if you were around all these guys you would take it for granted, but GEEEEEEZ....or you asked daddy how his day went and he tells you, oh nothing much happen today, we meet with the manager about the next tour and then we went over to CBS to mix some new songs and oh, George Harrison was in town and came over with Bob Dylan to the studio to play me the new songs they just wrote together for Georges new album, or something like that.....
Henry must have seen some wild stuff, maybe he wasnt born yet... Im guessing that he was born in 68 right??? i was....
Thats a smart PR move on Rickenbackers part getting Henry to work for them....whats weird is that I talked with him in the parts department and didnt even know that he was, I dont think I would have been weirded out by it, but I would have geeked out asking byrds questions and looked like a goober....glad i didnt know...by the way he was a very easy going, cool guy....

Same thing here. I phoned RIC with a question and spoke to a really nice guy. I happened to mention the Byrds and this guy said his name was Henry and that he was RMs son. We had a good talk about music etc and i got his email address. Nice moment. Rob Ashford.
