Truss rod fix?

I'm looking to fix the truss rods on my 4003. They're bent at the nut in the typical "Y" fashion.

Could I just take them out and straighten the ends, or should I get new rods? Also, where can I find the metal base? Mine's bent to match the rods.

You should be able to straighten them. I do not think the metal base is available seperately from RIC.

So the base comes with the truss rods? Kinda hard to tell from the site.

Your bearing plate is bent? Can you show a pic?

I'll get a pic up tonight. I think it's bent. It's been awhile since I looked at it.

The bearing plate sits flat against the wood. Something really bad would have to happen to put a significant bend in one.

Yes, the plate comes with the rods.

Here's the link to the pic. Looks bent to me, but I probably won't know for sure until I take it apart.

Looks like you don't have a plate at all. Something's fishy there.

I've uploaded a lighter image. There's a plate there. If there isn't, it came that way from Ric. It's all original, no refinish or evidence of tampering.

Definitely no plate! Looks like RIC screwed up. Get one in pronto!

OK, let's try this one. I'm seeing a metal plate behind the nuts. The top of it has some color on it that makes it look like wood.

Am I wrong?

The plate is supposed to be about 1/8" or more thick. You need one. Chris posted a link to the part from RIC, or you could call Customer Servoce and refer them to your pic and this thread and see if they'll send you one.

What year is that bass? Does it have a split guard?
