RIC-Months?

A friend of mine recently mentioned that he had planned and budgeted “over the course of the year” to purchase 2 new guitars. Since January 1st, five new guitars have snuck their way into his home (including a 325c58), and a sixth is finding its way “back home” (after selling it a few months ago); not to mention that he has a 1996 on order and is lusting after a Fender ’59 Bassman reissue.

I first suggested that he should focus on the phrase, “over the course of the year.” It might take a while to explain the complexities and details of this to his wife; in the meantime who knows what could find its way into the closet?

But then it dawned on me, what we really need is to develop an entirely new measurement of time! I suggest that these new units be labeled “RIC-Months.” Now we just need to define them. Are they something like Light-Years? Perhaps a contest here on the forum would be a good way to start…what think ye?

A light-year is a unit of distance (5.878499814 x 1012 miles), not time. Image

A "RIC-month" is any month you aquire a Rickenbacker guitar. This can be narrowed down to week, day, minute and possibly second. It is the final stage of a RAS episode.

Not everybody buys Rics at the same time, nor does everybody take the same intervals between Ric-acquisitions. Even for one Ric-buyer the time between two Ric-acquisitions can change. Even during a single Ric-month the length of that same Ric-month can change at the whim of FedEx. So time is indeed relative. It can even move backwards due to the fact that you can also sell a Ric. By buying a Ric you can therefore prove you're smarter than Einstein. Einstein was not a Ric-owner as far as I know. And that's sad.

Whew, I thought that you might want a more precise value ... Image

Can you define that with a bit more clarity? Image

Gary,
If you can define a RIC-month with some precision, I'm all for it. But I'd be happy with a ROM*

*Rough Order of Magnitude (for you non-techies...that's techies, not trekies)

If you average them out over the course of your whole life, five guitars is, like, one every fourteen years!

It's nothing then, really. I must try that argument at home!
