OHSC dimensions/fit for Ric basses

Hey everyone! Haven't had much time to monitor the Forum 'tween work and everything else lately.

Question of the day (with background info) is this:

I recently bought a '93 4003 MG from another Forumite, and I love it. It came without a case, but that was no biggie for me, since I had a "spare" OHSC that some reprobate left behind when he ran off with my old '77 Ric bass a bit over 10 years ago (case was functional, but rather beat with no handle).

So, imagine my surprise when after the '93 arrived, I went to put her away in said '77 OHSC ... the '93 didn't fit because it was, well, too "wide across the hips" ...

So, the question: does it seem plausible that Ric substantially "grew" their basses sometime between '77 and '93 - so much so that a '93 would not fit in a case that easily held a '77?

Thanks much - take care all!

some Rics are a little bigger and smaller ... they did grow ... late 80s to 96 they were a little fatter ... in 97 they went back to a 60s shape ...

Good news ... A ric will fit in most fender cases or a new case will do the job ...

A "P" bass case works well. In fact my new 4003 Vintage case is identical to my newer vintage Fender case I recently bought. I would bet money they are made at the same factory. The Fender case is a G&G case.

I've found that P cases work well, too.

My '68 doesn't fit too well into my molded case that came with my 97 4003. The headstock is too long. I suspect a new Ric case may work with it, tho.

Rics fit in "amp logo" era Fender bass cases. My '73 resides in one from the early 70's, with the orange interior.

I have my '75 in a Fender tweed.
