I know there's more than a few folks here that like the heavy grind that can be produced by a Ric bass, so in that vein I'd like to share a few notes produced by my '68.

I like the microtonal touches in the bass line.

cool ... good sound byte ...

my old 68 was losing its balls ... the pickups were weak ... it really came alive when I removed the capacitor and installed 4003 high gain pickups ...

The bridge pup in it was weak when I got it. I sent it to Lindy Fralin to get it redone. It sounds massive.

Always special to have sound bytes of Rics here. I only wish there were many more. It certainly helps to compare with similiar Rics to make sure yours is sounding as it should. I know mine wasn't until recently. It had no Ric "voice" whatsoever.

Jack's bass now has a full, wonderful RIC voice. Once Dale is done with the finish work we will discuss the problems it had and how it was fixed.

A little ditty I recorded this morning.

I used to think, how can I get that "Roundabout" sound? Now, it's "just there". I use a Bass Pod XT with headphones for all my practicing, and setting the Pod to 'The Fish' really did nothing. Now, it's effortless Squire sound on that setting. I thought it was all technique, until now. Simply amazing transformation Teds setup made.

Some basses definitely get it easier than others....

Nice!

I get a similar tone out of my 4003 through an EH English Muff'n into my Gallien Krueger 800RB, or my Mesa Bass 400...

BTW, I found a great way to kill GAS for a new bass... I have a cheap Squire P bass that sits in front of my amp, and I usually play it a lot because my Ric doesn't get touched until I clean up after work... I plug in the Ric the other day for the first time in two weeks, and it was like hearing it for the first time againImage

For me, it's my Schecter Elite 4 that's out all the time. Looks and feels great, but I cannot make her sing like she probably should. I also alternate between my Am Std Jazz and Rogue viola bass.

the best schecters are the studio model with the 3 band circuit ...

and that sound byte with the 68 ... I can hear the new pickup in there ... after playing an old 68 with anemic pickups I can here the improved sound of the upgraded pickup ...

If I was a 4 string player I would have kept my 68 and left the 4003 pickups in it ... that was a great combination ... but I am hooked on the low B ...
