Might be interesting on a 4004.
You'd have to lose the control plate though.
You'd have to make more room in the control cavity.

I had a J-retro in a Jazz bass and really liked it a lot. That said, I can't imagine one in a Rick. But I've never really wanted an active Rick before. There are other versions of that Preamp without the control plate such as the U-Retro which may work in a Rick though.
They're great units for what they are. Very high quality.

I have 2 Jazzes with them, you have to shield the bass like Roofer to keep the hum below a Tarmac Pratt & Whitney level....but its worth it.
U-Retros work in a variety of basses like you said, but then again...it wouldnt be a true Ric then would it. Why mess with near perfection from the Factory IMO.
