OOH boy, it came yesterday, and I feel like throwing my Strat under the next bus! WHat an awesome axe this is! I got it so that I could play lead, someday, better than I can on my 320, and it really kicks some serious butt! I don't have any effects pedals or anything and it sounds awesome as is.......now if I just had anything in blueburst!

Kaia, Congratulations on your new guitar.

Your reaction to receiving a new Rickenbacker is fairly common....absolutely lovin' it and wanting another one already! Good on ya!

How about a photo?

Are those your initials in the serial number?!

If so, I think you picked the right guitar.

Congratulations, Kaia. There is no feeling like it... apart from witnessing the birth of your first child or winning the lottery!

A fine example of the FG finish. Enjoy it to the max!! Image

Kaia,
Congrats, it's a beaut. Been thinking of a 600-series myself. Can you compare/contrast to the Strat, or any others?

Thanks, people! OK, I will give you a review. The strat is a new american model, no matter the quality, I don't want to buy Mexican, and I really liked it until..............I got the 620.
I usually play rhythm, but I want to play more lead and blues oriented style, so I got what I thought would be the most neutral guitar- the strat. It has a thicker neck and although it is easy to play, the Ric is soooo much easier to play, there is no comparison! I have a 320 that I love, but the frets are too small for real bending ease. I went back and forth as to whether I should get a new 620, but I thought it might have too much of a Ric vibe like the 320 does although, I play all kinds of music on it. I feel limited to Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins style leads on it. ( as if I wasn't limited enough by lack of skill!)
THe Rick also has a much wider range of tones without any effects except tube amp distortion on my Peavy Classic. The Ric has such a full, warm sound, it makes me actually sound better. Also, the sides of the neck are more smooth and comfortable. The frets aren't really worn, but more finished, maybe due to the laquer on the neck. I thought that the Ric finsih on the board mught make bending strings sticky feeling, but it isn't at all!

I don't have any other guitars of my own, that are similar,(old jazz guitars, Gibson and Gretsch) but I will say that compared to a Les Paul, SG, which I have played, the 620 is the classiest to play of any of them. Someone wrote on harmony central that the 620 was like a Telecaster on steriods! I can tell you that it has a very bluesy vibe and I don't think you can call it a really Ric sound, either. The small body is kindof cool, as well, and it just does not look like it would kick out the sound that it does! It also came back into pitch within an hour of being unpacked and the neck is to die for. I am jonesing for bluesburst now!

Congrats on the 620. I just took delivery of a 620-12 last week and I can relate to your excitement. Rics are wonderful instruments and certainly unique. There are many knock-offs of Fenders and Gibsons, but a Ric is always a Ric. Welcome to the club.

Howdy,

Congrats, Kaia! (I had a 620/12 until I sold it to Kevin Costner here in Louisiana.) The 620 is a rather unappreciated model and I plan to acquire another someday. FG looks so cool on a 620 as well.

PS: Lest anyone think I actually met Costner, I sold the 12 to his assistant/guitarist who claimed to be acquiring it for Costner.
