Is it just me or does the temperature seem to be getting hotter than ever? 30 degrees Celsius is one thing but there is a humidity level that makes it feel 40.

Oh, for the dry heat!

Peter: It's called 'global warming'. I have it on good authority that since January, 2006 our local average daily high temperature here in Texas has increased by over 60 degF. It was 106 degF yesterday...

A news item for Sunday (7/16) noted that every state in the lower 48 (save North Dakota) recorded a high temperature in the 90s Fahrenheit (30+ Celsius). Cool front brought relief last night in Milwaukee with highs today in the low 80s. We were 95 yesterday and humid. My rick basses are basking in my basement at 70 degrees, 60% humidity!

SF north to Vancouver is the place to be...

I was in San Rafael (20 minutes north of SF) yesterday...my car thermometer showed 102 F. I then drove south, home to Mill Valley. Less than 10 minutes. It was 81 F in MV. Microclimates.

The two hottest days I've endured were 115 in LA in the late 1980s and 107 in Chgo in '95 (500 people were said to have died in that one, probably from a combination of the heat and Chgo diet, with similar numbers per capita in Milwaukee and St. Louis.)

My band had a gig in a bar that weekend and I swear it was over 100 on stage.

I also remember the summer of 1980 being blazingly hot across most of the US, killing many farm animals. I spent that summer in LA, where it was hot as all get out, and my friends in Chgo told me it was no different there.

Speaking of there, this weekend I scanned a bunch of old photos I have, including some from the winter of 1979, the one that still holds the century plus record in Chgo for most snowfall and nearly the record for their coldest winter ever.

I sent my high school friends pics of it and they revived their memories of extreme weather (cold, cold pictures to be enjoyed on a very hot day.)

None of us had heard of global warming in those days. We just though it was Mother Nature's wrath upon us. One friend told me his memories of jumping off a three story building into the drifts below. The snow was that high. Bong hits, I'm told, were involved. It was the 70s of course.

No picnic in New York either. I refuse to bring the kids outside in this insanity, so Bob has a bit of cabin fever. And I thought that only happened in NY winters...

BTW here, it's been a steady 95+ with 50% humidity.

That winter in Chicago (Bilandic's undoing) was what finally lit my fire to leave for LA for good. The next June, I was living on the corner of Burton Way and Doheny Drive, right where the Four Seasons is now. I had a very nice 1-bedroom place that cost me $185.00 a month. I was in hawg heaven.

We usually get a few days between 105 and 110 during summers here in Melbourne. The record is 114.5.

Thankfully it's usually a relatively dry heat.

Ahhhhh, a new record for our pool water temp. A nice refreshing 90 degrees.
I heard it's been the hottest in the US this year since records where kept in 1870 something.

I keep seeing all these posts about how hot it ism and how the humidity is unbearable.

I live in the Atlanta area, and summers have always been usually between 95-100° with humidity well above 90% for extended periods. Add to that that the wind dies out completely, and it is one hot, soupy mess.

But this summer the temperature has been a little lower (averaging in the low 90's, humidity hasn't been real bad, and we have a nice breeze most days. Maybe you guys are living in the wrong part of the country (LOL).

Of course, now I've probably gone and jinxed it - The rest of the summer will be unbearable!
