Ebay Increases Their Prices

Friends have written me that they will no longer use ebay because of an increase in prices. I think it is a normal course of business as the site becomes more popular and reflects a rise in the cost of living. Typical capitalism.

What do you read in this mass generated email that all ebay customers & dealers got today?

"I'm writing today to let you know about changes we're making to eBay.com that are intended to rebalance the overall eBay marketplace by further distinguishing the roles of core listing formats (auction-style, auction-style with Buy It Now, and Fixed Price) and the Store Inventory listing format (used to display large amounts of product in eBay Stores).
Beginning August 22, insertion and final value fees for Store Inventory listings will be increased and will follow a tiered structure based on price--as they do for core listings. For complete details of these changes, please see my Announcement Board post and our Fee Changes Overview.
As one of the vast majority of eBay sellers who use only core listing formats, you are not likely to be impacted by these changes. Core listing fees will NOT be increased at this time. In fact, we're taking steps to boost their exposure on eBay and eBay Express.
I'm confident the actions we're taking are the right thing to do for the overall eBay Community. Auction-style listings have made eBay what it is today. In short, they provide the signature shopping experience millions of buyers have come to expect and provide the fastest way for you sell on the Internet. Look for even more exciting incentives for core listing formats coming soon"!
Sincerely,

Bill Cobb

I got this, I thought it was a scam. I guess not. So I guess that "shipping and handling" will increase too.

I for one would like to see way less store-type stuff, and more individual sellers. Same thing happened to flea markets around here. Got to where all the dealers came in with all their new stuff, and squeezed out the individuals who had real good old stuff to sell. Ebay did the same thing.

From what I read earlier, Ebay actually lost a lot of their new stuff sellers to site like Overstock because Ebay raised prices exorbitantly higher in previous years while delivering poor service to their mass sellers.

By now I had hoped some other site would be giving them a run for their money here. Google has flamed out in all their other ventures, including online auctions, it seems.

I don't see what the problem is with this, unless the increases are substantial. I also don't see a problem with store listings, since this makes finding items easier (rather than hoping the item you want is up for auction when you decide you want it). A lot, if not most, of the things I look for on eBay are listed in stores.

What would be nice is to have the notification emails have store items as an option.

Also, I don't see the stores as being a threat, since they are usually overpriced compared to the auctions. It is all the bootlegs, bogus auctions and scams that are the real problem on eBay. A user preference for eliminating auctions from selected countries (China) would be a bonus, and would help weed out the ****.
