Are guitar toasters and bass toasters one in the same?

The bass toaster has two threaded holes since it mounts to the pickguard. The guitar toasters have through holes (wood screws to the body). They are the same other than that.

So if I got a guitar toaster I could use the threaded plate from the high gain(that I would be replacing) to mount the toaster to the bass?

Yes, I think you can do that.

It would be easier to just tap the guitar pickup mounting holes for the proper thread size which is either 8-32 or 10-32.

I don't think the holes are quite that big on the bass pickups Dane. Image Aren't they like 4-40s? If they were 8-32 they would be the same size as the modern truss rods. If they were 10-32 they would be as big as the old rods.

Since the holes for the guitar toasters are slightly larger, use the same size nuts that the casing screws use on the PU mounting screws on the bottom of the PU.
I did that on a few of mine with no problems at all.
