A late 70's 4001 for $750 sounds like a good deal. Make sure it plays well and the neck is straight (or it can be made to play well.)

Provided nothing major is hidden that looks like a good deal to me...

I got a 79 just like it, nice basses, mine is one of my best sounding Rics. If it's in good shape, it's a good deal.

I forgot to say that it was a 1980 bass and I can't play it because it's in Hawaii and I'm not.
WHEW! It's a good thing I checked this thread!
LOL!

Here's a good question....when did they stop using the old style strap buttons and start using/offering strap locks?

Some time in the mid/late 90's.

I was just asking the seller a question about the strap buttons....
"I believe they are the original..they are fitted tight (not loose) and screw in and out with no problems , no other signs of screw holes. I know most of the History of this guitar, and the two previous owners were not "gigging players". I only purchased this as an investment/collection. Never used it on stage (didn't want to damage it)... and I need the money now. I purchased it for 750.00 three years ago and it has sat in my closet ever since".
..Hello...My name is Ben and I'm a Rickoholic...
I've been buying Rickenbacker basses for 3 1/2 months now and I'm getting ready to buy my third!
...My wife doesn't even know I have my 2nd!!!
I always used to say that just one time and I'll stop...Promise! It was true love at first sight! My one and only beloved 4003FG! Nothing will ever get between us ever!...Then I saw her...that forgotten '73 JetGlo...cold and lonly...left in the garage. I tried to walk away but I heard those horrible words!....."I'll let you have it for $300". I couldn't resist....I got her home and snuck her in the basement....I thought to myself..."Everything was ok now....I have these 2 and that's it"!..."a 4001 and a 4003...That's normal" I reassured myself. Then the unspeakable happened!!!! Some how by freak of nature my computer connected to an on-line classified add..
...and there it was in big bold print!...as if it were calling out to me....'1980 Rickenbacker bass - $750'
I tried to look away but... it was like I was possessed by a higher power and I SWEAR I heard angels singing! After I came to....I discovered I had sent many emails...asking question after question....Does it have this?...Does it have that?...What does that look like?...I had pictures that I didn't know where they came from!...shiny, curvy inanimate objects that control your soul!!...OH the humanity!!!
...I have accepted my disease and I know with your help I can survive... I am a RICKOHOLIC!

"..My wife doesn't even know I have my 2nd!!! "
If you are joking, that's funny, but if you aren't, please don't put your marriage in jeopardy, even if it's a decent deal..
Then, if you have 3 Rics, you might lose one, and have to split one down the middle!
On second thought, buy 2 more.

Ben, what I do is I have a closet with cases stacked in it. When I can't fit any more in the closet, something has to go. Thankfully, it's a big closet.

Check this out guys and gals....I told the guy in Hawaii I would buy it and after he found out I wasn't in Hawaii he sends me this email:
Ben,
Sorry about this..... but this can only be a local transaction. face to face cash in hand. Not that I don't trust another player...but.....thats why I don't "do " EBAY.. I am a law enforcement officer as well as a working player...unfortunately I have grown to think everyone is potentially guilty..its a ****** philosophy but it comes with the job.
Thanks for the schooling, its been good.
aloha
Kevin
What's up with that?!!! Does anyone know anyone in Hawaii that could pick this up for me? This is absolutely ridiculous.
