Newbie question ??

Hello,

I need help as I'm quite worried ?? I just received my 4003 bass ( new 2006 production )and I'm not sure if it works properly...

When using the Ric-o-sound output only the rear ( bridge ) pick up works. Nothing from the neck pick up. I've set the selector up to the neck pick up position and played the volume knob...nothing. When the selector in in the mid position it works but I believe it gets the sound from the rear pick up.....Bottom position works fine as it's the rear pick up...

When the standard output is used, both pick up works and the selector too....

Am I getting it wrong or it's defective ?? Is the Ric-o-sound output working with the bridge pick up only ??

What should I do ?? Help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Marc

Welcome! You need a stereo cable (TRS) as the output jack is a stereo jack; then the two outputs go their separate way to your amps. regular mono instrument cables will give you exactly what you are getting.

Sounds like it is working fine . You need the RIC adaptor to use the RIC-O-Sound.

A common mistake to the uninitiated... As usual a quick, friendly response from our family here.
Welcome indeed...

Hello

Thank you all for the tech info & the warm welcome to this forum. I'll stop at the audio shop to get one of those ``stereo jacks`` & try it out....

Ended up playing all evening last night... Kind of different than what I'm used to ( P & J basses ) but whew !! what a punchy sound !! Closer look also reveals attention to fit & finish...a fine bass.

Thanks again to all

Can anyone point me to that thread? I'm not having any luck finding it with the archives!!

John Hall also states the importance of using the ROS kit as opposed to an RTS Y cord.

And yet RIC has discontinued production of the ROS kit. They realize that it didn't sell that well. The ROS feature in the guitars and basses continues, though.

The importance, IIRC, is having a high quality, well shielded Y cable. Your typical Radio Shack quality Stereo Y splitter will probably induce an unacceptable level of noise.

And yes, RIC discontinued it...it's nothing personal, just bidness.

I think it was Jeff Rath who pointed out that an un-capped 4001 or a 4003 with a mono cable in the ROS jack simulates the sound of a 4000. Image

Pity that I've kept my 4001 capped.

What's the difference between switching to the bridge pup plugged in normal and using the ROS jack with a mono cable? Does it have a stronger signal perhaps?

It was John Hall who first said that about the mono cable in the ROS jack sounding like the 4000. RIC forum. The difference was described as taking the other tone circuit out of the equation. Just repeating.....

I would buy the Y cable to see if you like the effect before investing in something more expensive.

Hi John V. I posted that - actually clipped the text from our Forum I thought... I don't know what happened to it. The only other forum it could have been in was the Rickenbacker web site forum - I didn't see it there??? Sorry... still looking.
