I am having a hard time deciding which bass to use tonight. I played the 4005WB last weekend at the Drum Festival in Cuyahoga Falls, so I may use that again, or perhaps the 4001V63. Help me choose!

Jeff, cool gig. TAWB and Sly & family etc were two of my favorite acts way back.

I would use the 4005 as a bit of a nod to Larry Graham. It would also fit well with the other two bands. I have not heard Rare Blend, so the 4001 may be the better bass for this gig. Why not take both and see how the sound check goes? I often change my mind over a bass at the check.

Tough call. The 4005 might get you involved in conversation more than the 4001V63. How much time do you get, 45 minutes or so ?

I'm going to go against the grain and say you should go with the V63. No matter who you are playing for or where, it is always styling! And it harkens to an age that these two bands are from.

Of course, no matter which you choose you'll make a great choice!! Good luck, have fun, and congrats!

I was thinking of the 4005WB in regards to LG, but I think someone else has the bass chair for this gig.

I hate to say it, but I would be afraid to take a 4005 out of the house for a gig. The v63 is more than enough. If something happens to that 4005 it would be really sad.

My recently acquired 4080 has a broken case handle. I am leaving it unfixed so I'm not tempted to take it out of the apartment.

Well the 4005WB got the job. We had a really great crowd, there must have been over 15,000 poeple there!

I had a nice selection of backlines to choose from, I could mix 'n match from an Eden WT800, GK 2000RB, vintage blue face SVT, Eden 410 cabs, Hartke 115XL cab, SVT 810; I picked the SVT set, never played through one at a gig before. Bob Young would be proud.

I hate to say it, but I would be afraid to take a 4005 out of the house for a gig. The v63 is more than enough. If something happens to that 4005 it would be really sad.

I'll be gigging with my new one a bunch over the next few weeks. That case is not leaving my mitts for a second!

Jeff, I'm usually up there over this particular weekend(for a family party) but not this year I'm afraid, my better half is in California. It would have been cool to catch your show...

Jeff, I just listened to some of the Rare Blend clips online. Great stuff! As I have been playing more I have become much more interested in jazz styles. Seems like alot of fun once you know what you're doing, which you obviously do

I'd like to make sure to listen to the clips that are your favorites from a bass perspective. Can you point them out to me? I love that "Mystic Jam" style.

Oops, I mean't to say there werre over 5000 poeple there!

The SVT sounded great but I did find the high end a bit brittle sounding, it did not have the smooth clarity I am used to in the treble that I get with my Walter Woods amp. The mids and the bottom end were very nice however. It wasn't cranked up much, I had the volume on about the 10:00 position and this was adequate for my needs at this gig. At first I tried the 2000RB but it didn't put out any sound! I am glad someone else moved the amps around, it was nice to have roadies/stagehands for a gig.
