John Birch Bass

Have any of you noticed this listing on Ebay? Looks like a very nice bass from the photos.

This bass was apparently made back in the 70's. It could come close to passing as a modified 4004 in my opinion.
I don't know if this was a one off home made piece or if John Birch made more than just this one?
Anyone familiar with the history on this bass or on John Birch himself?

John Birch was one of the premier 'custom' guitar makers in the late 70's and early 80's in England - one of his most notable customers was Tony Iommi. He was noted for extremely precise workmanship - I remember reading an interview with him talking about the problems inherent to an interchangeable pickup guitar (basically, wood moves, and metal doesn't). He died some years ago, and the brand was recently resurrected with several of the old designs being reproduced.
I can't imagine that the '4001' body style will last much longer, absent some unknown (and unprecedented) licensing arrangement

looks like an old 4002 that was heavily modified to me,but,as always I could be wrong

No, those are not modified Rick basses - you can take my word for it.
