A trip to the music store

yesterday I took a trip to the local corporate music store in Canton MI ...
it is an interesting place to people watch ...
I saw 2 instances of a classic music store scene
there were 2 different guys there trying out an instrument and their girlfriend/wife was looking at them with a bored look ...
The Music Store is not a place to take your girlfriend or wife ... most women aren't interested in seeing use guys under the influence of GAS ...

The 'captive' girlfriends I see in music stores around here are about 50/50 interested/bored.

Funny! I was in NYC over the weekend and the one I saw was enamored with her boyfriend's power chords... or maybe his eyes, I don't know. Apparently I did not get a representative sample! Probably a new couple.

A few years ago when MARS existed, they had a store at a major Houston mall. It was nice because I could kill time there while the rest of the family was shopping at the mall.

The wife and I are both into golf. The wife more so than myself. It just so happens that the new Guitar Center in Dayton, and the Sam Ash in Cincinnati are both right next to a Golf Galaxy.
I hit the bass department and she shops for golf accessories.
It gets expensive sometimes though.

another time a cute young woman was taking up bass and she needed an amp ... the salesman was there but he was a typical corporate music store rep ... he had attitude but not much knowledge ... so she asked me my advice on her first combo amp purchase ...
another time the manager who is highly skilled bass player was showing off ... well I happened to have a bass plugged in at the same time and I kept up with him playing fast show off rifs ...

Ok, the GC I'm refering to just opened a couple of months ago. I go in looking for some new strings and spent about 20 minutes explaining to the "green" sales guy the difference between "roundwound", "flatwound", "nickel", "stainless steel",,ect...
Nice enough guy,,he just didnt have a clue. He did make me a good deal just for taking the time to explain things to him.

Well, when your wife works in a music store (which happens to be my Rickenbacker dealer), I can't come home and tell her "Look at this killer deal I got on this 4003!" She now knows the MSRP and the cost. Damn! Can't get anything by her anymore!

Trips to the music store are fun. If only I had enough talent and $ to justify outrageous purchases.
I have a friend who has a 360-12, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Acoustic, Fender Strat, plus several other big brand instruments.... and she's terrible
Has the money to plunk down though.
Life just isn't fair.
