Here's an overlay for a more fairer comparison. Definitely more purple tint in the newer finish, my 33 year old finish does look more like the dark cherry furniture that's in my house. Doesn't really matter though, they're both going to look like jetglo in most of the pictures that are taken.

Mark, I have a 1981 460 BG that is more of a "ripe Bing cherry" than Burgundy, so I bet it's close to yours in color.

Here's some pics that show how difficult it is to photogragh this color, without the labels it would be impossible to tell the differences.

I know what you mean, Mark. Here's a body shhot of my 460:
The angle of illumination makes a big diference in how the color appears.

I got a pretty good shot of the headstock and the color showed up a little better from that angle.

Definitely some purple in that mix maybe dark indiglo. Did anyone see where that mint 79 4001 true burgundy is at on ebay, $2300 with 6 hours to go, that thing looks like it was painted yesterday.

2 hours left and this things up to $2550 with two hours left, this is going to end up as some kind of record, clean bass though.

There was a battle for this between two bidders(not me) and then at the last minute a guy with ebay name "jefferyalaska" came in at the end and got it for $2923, this has got to be a record for a 79 4001.
