There is no doubt this guy inspired 100's of would be guitarists in UK.

I have to admit that the very first guitar solo that I ever played was "Apache"
You see I started out my musical career as a rhythm guitarist.
I got promoted, if I can use that expression in this context to lead guitarist by my manager in England.
At the time the band consisted of myself and a female singer, who I had only just met. Our manager chose me as a result of a competition. How he chose the female singer is another story. LOL

Great piece of tape, thanks Roy! Classic example of how less can be more.
Hey Brian, that gal still looking for work. My group has a rather stringent auditioning process that it sounds like she would pass quite easily.
Sorry! Bad Gary!

Too funny Gary.
I lost touch (so to speak) when I left England. She's probably a grumpy old grandmother now wondering why she never made it in the industry.
The things I would have liked to have said to her at the time but bit my tongue. God she was an awful singer.
I forgot to mention Roy, that I have always admired Hank's guitar playing. He was and still is brilliant.

I was fortunate enough to have met and talked with Hank in the 80's on a couple of occasions, recall him and me stood together having a drink when he basically wanted to get out of the dressing room and get a quite moment, I tried to be cool and not starstruck and he asked me what I thought of Don't Cry For Me Argentina, a number they (Shadows) had just started to put into the act, I told him they should release it as a single but he felt too many had already done it and perhaps it would make a good album track.
A few months later it was released as a single and became The Shadows first hit in years, top 5 in UK.
I like to delude myself I had an influence.
I know a lot of you may never have heard Shadows version of Don't Cry Me For Me Argentina, so if anyone wants to hear it, just shout I'll post the version that was not released as the single (best version)

Will do I'll post tomorrow, I'll post the long version rather than the hit single version, which was edited and had applause added to the studio cut to make it appear as if it was taken from a live recording.

Thanks for sharing, Roy. That's a great track. To tell you the truth, i was kinda biased against the tune itself due to relatively recent Madonna's version (yep, i know it's an old tune, done by great artists long before her...), but this version changed my mind & attitude to that piece of music completely. Lovely and charming.

Interesting editing on the Shadows clip on Youtube. You'd almost think the editor thinks that Jet played lead! Nevertheless, it's a great time piece
