Custom one off? Prototype? Does not compute. Nice creamy color.

I think it was possible to special order checkers at the time.

Pretty darned cool bass, eh?

There was an early 4003 lefty with checkerboard binding in the factory museum.

"It comes with the hard shell case that I got when I purchased the guitar".

I'd be careful. Thats a faker case.

I haven't seen a case like that before either. Was that the standard case at one time?

You're right Scott, that's a faker case. I wouldn't be surprised if the bass is too.

My '72 came in the same case, and mine is real, honest. When I bought my brand new 4001 back in 1974 I couldn't afford a RIC case so I went for another type of case, but id did come with the bass and the bass was real. I must say though, that check looks a bit even and large compared to my '72. could just be the photo though...?

This is what this forum lives for. Come on guys, Sergio, how to authenticate it. I agree white plastic would be cool.

Someone here on the forum has a faker just like this one, a "Greco" I believe. Case and all. (Sergio?)

It could be real. I'd ask for better pics.

Bridge pics, Pickguard pics, # of truss rods, ectt...

I think that it is the real deal...

There was a Jetglo version like this, from the same time line, (Not a shadow), not to long ago on the bay.

Ok, it's anorak time... I have just counted the black checks on my '72 on the length of the jack plate. I count 25 - 26 depending on the angle.

On the ebay bass there are only 23. Did RIC change the binding or jack plate? I thought it looked just a touch bigger than I am used to.

Here I am. I don't know what to make of that one, really. That block binding sure doesn't look like the real thing. Maybe someone installed it somewhere along the line. And the bass sure looks as though it has been oversprayed. I have some pics of the Greco 4001 you mention, Scott. It looks very different from the Rick at issue. And yes, that HSC is a 'faker'.
