Before we all met in Santa Ana, I learned the news that my new Rickenbacker 1996 that was ordered for me by Chris Clayton was being shipped to his store...missed seeing it at the factory by just a couple of days.

Anyhoo, it was waiting at the store on Tuesday, and got to me today. WOW! What a beauty. The guitar has THE vibe...Thanks to all at RIC.

I can think of nothing cooler than to party with everyone and then come home and have new Rickenbacker waiting for you. You all need to try it sometime!!Image

Hopefully, a pic or two later.

Too bad you couldn't have had it for the jam on Friday!

How is it John? I was particularly pleased with the way that batch of 1996's came out,so if there's any anomalies let me know.

It would have been really neat to see it in the factory, but then you wouldn't have known it was yours, AND it wouldn't have been waiting for you when you got home! Congratulations, and yes, PICS.

Eric: I haven't put it through an amp yet, but my first impressions are that it's a super guitar. It has the certain 'feel' that I like about the 3/4 Capris, not like a C58 but more authentic to two other 3/4 Capris that I really dig: David McLaughlin's '60 310 and John Williams's '59 315...John's 315 was touched by God when it was made, and this 1996 has a similar feel to it. Quite loud acoustically....I like that. Having the f-hole on these guitars really opens them up.

Oh yeah, the whiff of 'Ric-O-Smell' when I opened the case was great, LOL. Everything looks and feels first-rate.

As usual, you guys at the shop have alot to be proud of. If my guitar represents the consistancy of the batch, then everyone will get a beauty. I'm digging it, but I am a little biased.Image

Pics later, but soon. Gotta get it home first!

Johnallg, you're right..I'd rather have it waiting on me when I got home, ha!

The title of this thread looks rather like a suicide note.

Dane: LOL, I can see it too.

Well, no pics for a few days...'Ernesto' is starting to leave some rain in the area, and with all the clouds it got dark earlier than it usually does today. I want to take some pics in natural sunlight, I think that will show off the finish better.

John,
Very cool. I have a friend in DC who has one on order that might well be a part of this recent batch. He'll be delighted to hear that your's turned out so well, not to mention the fact that Eric was so pleased with them. Doesn't get much better than that!
Like everyone else, I'll be looking forward to some pics as well as your report on how it plays plugged in (though I always enjoy evaluating my guitars unplugged for a good while before I "crank it up").
BTW - Great to meet you at the 75th!
