Difference in sound without horseshoes on v63

Hi I´m new here. I will hopefully buy a used 4001v63 in a couple of hours. I saw in the archives that the horseshoes can be removed for better playability. Dont know yet if I will do that as they look great.
But how much do they affect the sound?
Is it like the crome pickup covers used on Fenders reflecting the magneticfield?

This topic has been addressed before, but here goes.
yes, they can be removed. However, 1) they help reshape and hence somewhat increase the magnetic field of the pickup;
2) since they provide shielding, the pickup will be noisier if you remove them.

Hi Jocke, welcome. I had two V63's and took the horseshoes off both of them, Sergio is correct, they were grounded, so I picked up a little more buzz from lights, and the pickups were slightly less powerful. But they still sounded good, and the buzz was tolerable for me, not much worse (if at all) than a 4003 with the cover off.
