I just got home with a mint 4001v63 and it was love at first sight. The quality of this thing is amazing. And the fireglo finish takes my breath away. The horseshue pickup can almost put a MM pickup to shame. It´s that fat but still really defined.
I noticed I get a buzz when I touch the lower horseshoe, not so with the upper. If I touch both the hum goes away. Is this a bad grounding or what should I do?
I just have to adjust the stringhight to my specs and this will be a real player. This is probably one of really few of these basses in Sweden so I feel really blessed right now.
And sorry no pics yet.

Yes it does sound like the lower one is not grounded, I would check it. Or better yet, if you bought it from a dealer bring it back for repair and don't let them tell you it is normal.

Hold on to that baby, Joakim.
Yeah, it sounds as though the lower horseshoe is not grounded at all. Check the whole pickup assembly for loose mechanical connections.

Welcome to the V63 club Joakim. Mine is a '98 JG. Your right, the horseshoe will blow away a MM anyday! Look for a faulty ground as this is the most likely culprit. Good luck with your Ric and welcome to the forum!

Joakim, Welcome to the forum and more specifically, to the V63 club. I have had one for 18 years now and we'll never part. The neck on mine is thin and flat, real fast.

Good luck and congrats!

Cheers,

Andy
