72 Azureglo

John Biscuti gave me a heads up on this 72 AG in Japan,

I've already got a reservation to refin my fireglo 73 to azureglo so I won't be pursuing this. Here's some pics (sorry about the croppage, trying to stay within limits). I think 4001 AG's are about the coolest ricks on the planet.

Even moreso with the pre-73 goodies. Seeing these pics has really given me RAS for one of these.

This is KILLING ME. First the white w/checkerboard on eBay, then that gorgeous non-yellowed-white-on-white also on eBay, and now this Azureglo with all the features in Japan. This is just too much for me.

I'll say it again, why are the azureglos the most abused basses you'll ever see? Besides the one that Simon Moles got, I've yet to see one in decent condition. The chrome on the tail piece of this one is gone, and missing finish on the neck just turns me off. I can handle some buckle rash, that's almost expected for a bass that's been gigged. I guess that's why I decided to go with Paul W., brand new azureglo on a 33 year old 4001 is going to look awesome.(Thanks for the tip Johnny B.)

No, mine has half of the goodies, which was one of the deciding factors on the refin. I've already have two 73's with the two types of full inlays so my plan was to find a checkered 73 with the small inlays, wavy grovers, and toaster. Mine's a May of 73 and they had started to use the non-split tailpiece and smaller inlays. In addition to the toaster and grovers it's also got the plexi TRC, its a cool transition model that will look great in azureglo.

Bob I saw that , but I was referring to the checkered 4001's. The seller states that azureglo was a custom color, but it was a standard color that just doesn't seem to pop up very often. I think azureglo really started to make an impression on me when I saw Star Stowe standing next to one in her b-day suit,(Feb 77 I think).

With me it was Gaye Advert of the Adverts....one of the first Ric pics I ever saw (ironically saw the Star Stowe c/fold prior to that but it was before I started playing and I must say I was kind of distracted from the bass!).
That azure 4001 has just been discussed in the Rics wanted section, thanks to Sergio. I'd love it (although I'd like a pre-skunk more; I seem to like the sound of those better, even ignoring aesthetics), but allowing for duty etc, if they even ship outside Japan, it's too steep for me. My blue bass (whichever blue I end up choosing) will also eventually come via Paul.

Just curious: has anyone ever seen an Azureglo 21 fret 4001? They should be VERY rare, I guess.

I can go one better. I saw what looks to be a 21 fret, in probably the rarest of early 70's finishes, and which looked original, this week...
