4001CS re-fret

Hi guys.
I am getting nervous about my 4001CS re-fret.
Should the luthier get replacement fret wire from RIC or is it standard stuff?
I plan to see the guitar tech for a chat next week.
If I could do it,I would get it over to the States for one of the real experts from the Forum to do it.
Any practical suggestions welcome.

Any good fretter can do it right for you. Your concern should be more about whether the tech is able to do it right (qualified) more than about the wire used. Any high quality fret wire would do the job.

I've never seen a 4001cs get enough playing time to wear down the frets ...

Pete, as Scott says good that you are giving the CS a regular spanking! I'm sure there must be a top guy in the UK for this work. I used to play Overwaters and the owner Chris May was a bit of a wizard on all makes of basses. That said I can't recomend him for a refret, only in that I have never seen his refretting work.

Bob, I'm pretty sure Chris would be great for a refret. He tends to consider that side of things more his forte than the actual woodworking, the bulk of which is now done by Haydn I believe. There's also Martin Petersen at the Gallery who does the bulk of my work (lovely guy and great luthier), and John Diggins of Jaydee Guitars. Haven't seen his refrets but his normal fretwork is exemplary. I must admit the apparent absence of a Ric "specialist" in the UK bothers me, but I think any of the above would suffice. You could also try Chandler's who I believe have the Plek system, which should ensure a great setup providing you're willing to pay for it. To be honest, it's more correct fretboard refinishing that worries me than the actual fretwork itself.

Rics 'R' Us near Birmingham have a gentlemen who deals with everything Rick related. Refrets through to rebuilds and restoration. Friendly service too.

Thanks guys.I have as you say given the poor old girl a regular spanking and now I am doing stuff like Gates of Delirium, Fish including Silent wings and Tempus Fugit and bashing out Close To The Edge three times an afternoon at rehearsals its time for some fret attention.
I have been given details of a guy near to where I live by Shawn Luckman on the other forum and I will phone the ones you have suggested too.
The main problem is on the high B on the G string.You should see the ruts in the frets you would be horrified.
I will try to post pictures.

Pete great to hear about your Seyes gig at the Cavern club with Mr Alan White on drums this will prove that your band Seyes are the UKs number one Yes tribute band see you there.
