Tom Petty and the Heatbreakers

I saw TP and the H last week in Chicago. It was like the RIC 75th Part II! I think the band must have used at least 6 different Ricks. If there are any of you forumites that haven't ever seen TP, I'd recommend it. They rock!
Their bass player could have used a Rick though(Opinion of a shameless, die-hard Rick snob!) His P-bass just wasn't cutting through the mix. A bass playing friend of mine saw them the next night and had the same comment.

My wife and I are seeing Tom Petty next week at the Hollywood Bowl. This will be my first time and her second. This is the most I've ever spent to see a concert so it had better be incredible.

Yep, I'm going to the Bowl next week as well. I've heard he uses a lot of Ricks this time around.

I saw them about 11 or 12 years ago (I was in highschool still!)
One of the best live shows/concerts I've seen to this day.

Most expensive, Dane? I thought TP always prided himself on being a reasonably priced show. Didja buy first row from a broker or something? I scalped mine the day of the show for 40 bux!
They put on a solid show. They mix it up a lot. Practically every song gets an instrument change. They did a couple covers too(I always get a kick out of a big act doing a cover or two).
Our Mayor declared last Thursday "Tom Petty Day" and met with him backstage. So TP comes out and plays his first couple tunes and then says: "I'm in a great mood tonight. I just met your mayor backstage. We smoked a joint together!.....Just kiddin!"

Jeff, I paid $288.00 for two tickets with all the fees and such and that's through TP's site/club or whatever it is. You could get them there a week before they went on general sale. Since the mid 80's my concert attendance has dropped off sharply due to what I consider high prices, but then I've not seen The Eagles, or McCartney lately either. The $75.00 apiece we all spent for the five and a half hour show at the House of Blues last month was the best bang-for-my-buck I've had in years. As a general rule of thumb, if I can buy an artists entire back catalog of CD's for what I'd spend on one ticket, I aint goin'.

I saw some video footage of him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yesterday! Sadly that's about as good as it will get for me.....
Saw some of the Ricks he uses, though!

Yeah $144 for a ticket to TP is pretty steep, Dane.

I saw TP last summer in San Diego, and it was fantastic. The music is great, of course, but it's also great to see so many stunning guitars in the span of 2 hours.
I'm seeing him on the 29th at the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley, and then again on Oct 20th in Sacramento. Can't wait!
The opening song is one of the best openers I've ever seen... You'll love it

His VG interview says they're doing a Wilbury's song in tribute to George. Would that be the opener?
