Take a closer look at the neck "scratch".
That looks more like a break to me.

Looks like an 80's bass, not a 1997. Check out the two piece pick guard.

$799 is about the right price for that bass ... it looks to be an early 80s 4003 ...

Yeah I'm going to keep putting money away into my "bass fund" and either buy 2006 Jetglo with the vintage tone selector and slimmer neck profile or wait and see what 2007's color is going to be.

Serial #N0 9076 comes up as Feb 1997.

Does a split guard fit a top rod adjustment bass?

That doesn't look like a stock two piece pickguard from the early 80's which wouldn't fit anyway, looks modified, the place where the two pieces meet is too jagged, other parts of it don't look right either. The tailpiece has a modern mute in it, he scratch looks like a scratch to me, but what's that long mark on the back of the body?
