I just got a new 330 fireglo, and currently I am using the .42-.10 rickenbacker strings.
It sounds great, but I was wondering what other people used, to maybe get a different sound.
So, what strings are you guys using?

.11-.52 with a wound G (.22) on all my Ricks.

This makes it punchier?

I don't know about punchier, but definitley a thicker sound and better tuning stability. Big strings = big tone.

BTW, they're Ernie Ball.

Oh yeah, heavy strings are definitley punchier. You can play them hard and they are less likely to break. And you can't tune a plain G anyway!

I prefer 10-46 on my 330 it was set up for Dean Markleys but any 10-46 seems OK.
You might need to adjust the truss rod if you go for a higher gauge though?
I use Thomastik Jazz Swing Flatwounds or D'Addario Roundwounds, 1/2wounds or Chromes depending on my mood!

Are the d'addario 1/2 wounds similar to the compresssed quality of the ric strings?

I have only used the RIC strings on my 360 /12 so can't give an answer to that!
Perhaps someone else here can help?

I use Rotosound 10-42s on most of my Ricks. They sound great - nice and 'chimey' - and in Australia they are 2/3 the cost of RIC strings and more readily available. Plus you get a spare .10 with each set.

I use D'Addario XL 12-52 with a wound G in all of my electrics. I've got a 360/12 coming from a forum member (Thanks Walt!) it's currently setup with 9's. I'm going to try those, but I imagine I'll want something a bit stouter.

Are the Ernie Ball's rounds or flats?
The wound G is definitely an asset, particularly when one's old Grovers are a bit wobbly (being replaced soon).
I got a good deal on 3 sets of RIC strings on ebay, but they'll be used up soon & I need to find an easier to find alternative.

Thanks, John. I should try those, I need to adjust the intonation anyway.
