Just came back from Liverpool where I visit the new Cavern Club. Met an old man who said he had seen Beatles 64 times before they got famous. We sat there talking for ours. A lot of cool stories about them from the beginning. If you are in Liverpool you must visit Mathew Street. A lot of nice places there

Frode, where is the new Cavern Club in relation to the old Cavern Club?

They told me exactly the same place, only turned it around 90 degree. They even used the same bricks when rebuilding the place.

Yeah, us old guys are the only ones who could have seen them. I didn't see 'em 64 times, but did see them in '64.Image

Who are the geniuses that made the decision to tear it down? Wasn't their idiocy so great as to gain them some sort of status in an online Hall of Shame?

Glenn,

It's called "Progress" Shameful? Yes. Why did the Salvation Army turn the Strawberry Field orphanage into a church? Progress. Based on that action, I would hazard a guess that they think that there aren't any orphan children in that part of the world anymore. I'll bet that notion is incorrect also.

At the time in Liverpool there was an organized effort to stop it but obviously it wasn't enough. Such a shame.... such monumental stupidity.

Here is a great explanation of the Cavern Club's history which is more complex than I had thought. Very interesting.
