One thing I don't understand. Americans momentarily have a worldwide market, because the US prices in, for example, Europe are very moderate, but they restrict their sales to the States and Canada. As a European I'd never have a chance to sell a (not vintage) Gibson or Rickenbacker to an American, because of the high price I paid when I was buying it from the european distributor or by importing it by myself (tax + customs duty + shipping).

How come?

Pablo, some US sellers just don't want the extra trouble in filling customs and export forms. If you really want the item, ask the seller politely if he is willing to ship to Europe. Mention your 100% positive feedback (I hope that's what you have) and history of smooth international transactions. I've done this more than once, and in most cases the sellers have agreed. If they don't, I respect that. Just make sure you ask BEFORE bidding, and after you know the estimated shipping costs.

I bought my Shadow from a seller who refused to ship the bass even WITHIN the US. He wanted to sell locally to someone who can come and check the bass in person. I convinced him to ship to a friend of mine in Cleveland and she sent it to Israel.

There are also issues of security policies when selling overseas. PayPal won't protect the seller from fraud if the item is shipped out of North America, and there is a LOT of fraud being carried out on these auction sites. For rare, big ticket items, it is safer/easier to sell within the US even if the prices aren't as high.

If you are serious about buying, I would suggest offering a secure payment method (wire transfer) as an alternative - the seller is then guaranteed payment before shipping (unlike PayPal which can revoke payment up to four months later if the transaction is fraudulent). This leaves you vulnerable to scams though, so both parties need to be comfortable.

You can get the very same bass from one of our friendly Chinese dealers for around a couple hundred bucks!

I say they are worth $1700.00 to $2300.00.

I agree Dave. We all thought the $3500 original BIN was over priced along with the original $2700 opening bid.

So I guess the guy who drove up the last auction didn't accept the 2nd chance offer.
