How does one go about "re-swaging" a Grover tuner? I have one that the back is falling off of.
Thanks in advance!

that's why they are called wavy tuners ... you wave goodbye to them as they fall apart and fall off of your bass ...

I have done that several times.I use an awl . Im sure you could even use a nail if you desire . I put it on my big cast iron bench vise put a towel underneath it lay it flat and strike the little pins lightly in the center with the hammer and awl . Works every time .

I have three 73 4001's for a total of twelve wavy Grovers and I've had to re-swage three of them and it was no big deal. I've had no tuning or other funtionality problems and just don't get why people dislike them so much. If I see a 73 for sale and the owner has changed the tuners I walk away because what else have they not liked and felt they had to change?

That sounds like a Blues Brothers joke, Jeff. So...what's a Wish Sandwich?
The pins on mine are very flat and are flush with the back cover. So...I turn the thing upside down on a towel-covered hard surface so that the tuner post is sticking up, I put a nail set or something in the center of the pin and then smack it with a hammer?

To be clear, just what is being punched?

The center of the rivet.

Correct . The center of the rivet . It will mushroom out slightly . Just make sure the flat plate is right down on the gear cover . Works every time no worries .

Mine aren't loose, but I'll have to pop one off to look at it the next time I change strings.
Thanks, all.

#1 nail set and a 16oz ball/peen works every time. Don't be too heavy handed; you can split the base plate or crush the housing...

I just replaced the old ones on my 4080 6 string with Imperial repros. The old ones were almost falling apart.

Hey guys - for what it's worth, I have a set of Wavey Grovers I'm selling (2x2) They appear to been in good condition, and are fully functional:
